Winter 2022 Newsletter

Dear Friends of Set Free Monterey Bay,

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday! We are very expectant for 2022 and wanted to share a few, very exciting, updates.

Fundraiser Update

Thank you to all who attended our first Set Free Monterey Bay Fundraiser & Auction last November. We are thrilled to have your support and plan to make this an annual event. We raised $120,000 at the event, to further our mission of supporting the needs of sex trafficking survivors, including the opening of our restoration home in 2022!

We are now at 33% of our fundraising goal. To make a tax-deductible donation, please click on the donation button below.

House Search

SFMB is in the process of visiting available properties to lease a restoration home. Our goal is to open a house for survivors within the first 6 months of 2022. This is the reason SFMB was created and we’re excited and hopeful to see our vision come to life.

Survivor Support

Equine Healing Collaborative:

In August, SFMB and the Equine Healing Collaborative entered into an agreement to provide services to local survivors of human trafficking. The Equine Healing Collaborative is an organization focused on individual recovery, self-discovery, and personal growth through the use of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. SFMB & EHC are working in collaboration with one survivor to help her along her healing journey as she visits the EHC on a weekly basis. This will be a continued relationship as we open our home and bring the residents to the EHC for therapeutic services.

Eden’s Glory:

After Ashley’s visit in August, our sister organization Eden’s Glory in Illinois offered Ashley a floater position as Assistant Housing Director for 3 months. Through this position, Ashley has gained experience that will better equip us as a whole to open a residential home of our own. Ashley’s full immersion into life with residents and staff helps us gain a better understanding of what day-to-day functions look like as well as how to handle situations when they arise and how to implement organizational protocols. We ask that you pray specifically for the women at Eden's Glory and the women that will enter our home for we have witnessed a spiritual battle for their lives. As they undergo deep trauma work and come to know Jesus, the pullback to the life of exploitation is evident and real. Our home will be no exception to the spiritual warfare that takes place as broken lives are being restored.

Service Providers

As we plan to open a restoration home one of our primary needs is to engage service providers who will contribute to the healing and recovery of our residents. We will be providing a range of treatments and we are still in need of the following service providers:

  • Primary Care Doctor (takes Medi-Cal)

  • Therapist

  • Medical Personnel

  • Physical Therapist

  • Psychiatrist

  • Cosmetologist

  • Yoga & Fitness Instructors

  • Chiropractor

If you or somebody you know is interested in providing these services or similar services please contact ashley@setfreemontereybay.org.

Volunteers & Staff

With the potential of our home opening, we will be revamping our volunteer program and looking for qualified staff. If you or somebody you know is interested in volunteering or working with our organization we will be hosting a training at the start of 2022 to discuss our volunteer opportunities. Stay tuned for a confirmed date via email.

Questions in the meantime can be directed to ashley@setfreemontereybay.org

Are you interested in becoming an SFMB Ambassador?

The Ambassador Program is a group of individuals who support the vision and mission of Set Free Monterey Bay by engaging in the program as advocates, volunteers, and committee members. As an SFMB Ambassador, you have the opportunity to represent the faith-filled work of the organization and use your gifts and abilities to bring hope to those oppressed by the human trafficking industry.

The responsibilities of an Ambassador are a step up from our volunteers. Ambassadors are invited to be a part of the Volunteer Team, attending any training or meetings, as well as participating in any outreach or events organized by the Program Director.

Ambassadors are also approved to be added to one of the service committees or special projects, supervised by an SFMB Board Member. To fill out an application please click HERE.

FROM THE ASHES by Ashley Chesney

PRE-ORDER "From The Ashes" memoir written by our very own, Ashley Chesney.

"From The Ashes" is a transformative memoir on finding freedom and redemption after experiencing the dark web of drug addiction, sex trafficking, and the commercial sex industry. This is a story about God’s relentless pursuit of Ashley, his healing power, and how he led her out in order to help others who are still trapped. The book exposes the tactics and recruitment techniques of abusers, explains the vulnerabilities of victims and the lasting effects of trauma on the brain and will teach its readers about all that truly encompasses the hidden world of sexual exploitation. A story of captivity to freedom. From scandal to second chance.
