The fight against human trafficking starts right here in Monterey County. Your passion, time, and talents can make a real difference for those seeking freedom and restoration. Whether you’re a student, business owner, church member, or neighbor, you have a role to play in bringing hope and healing to our community.

Businesses
Community change in Monterey County begins when community businesses take action. Set Free Monterey Bay partners with employers to confront trafficking through education, prevention, and survivor empowerment. Whether you work in hospitality, healthcare, or public service, your business can be part of the solution. Our trainings help teams spot signs of trafficking, respond safely, and offer employment that gives survivors a fresh start. When companies invest in freedom, they don’t just strengthen lives; they strengthen the entire Monterey Bay community.
Churches
At Set Free Monterey Bay, we believe the Church is God’s chosen vessel to bring His love, healing, and restoration to a hurting world. Only Jesus can truly set captives free, but He calls His people to be His hands and feet in that work. That’s why we partner with churches across the Monterey Peninsula to equip believers with the knowledge, tools, and compassion to stand against human trafficking.
Churches can get involved by hosting awareness events, inviting SFMB to speak during services, organizing prayer gatherings for survivors, sponsoring a survivor’s journey through residential care, or mobilizing volunteers for community outreach. Through these partnerships, congregations become living testimonies of God’s heart for freedom. Set Free Monterey Bay is where faith and action meet to show the Monterey Bay community what it looks like when the Church rises in faithfulness to bring light into the darkness.

First Responders
First responders play a critical role in the fight against human trafficking. Our team partners with law enforcement, fire departments, medical providers, and other community protectors to equip them with practical tools and trauma-informed training.
Our sessions focus on identifying victims, responding with compassion, and connecting individuals to safety and care. This past year alone, 261 first responders and 1,276 community leaders were trained, creating a stronger network of protection across Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties.
When first responders are equipped to recognize and respond to trafficking, lives are rescued, cycles of exploitation are broken, and hope is restored.
Schools
Children are among the most vulnerable to human trafficking in the United States. The Department of Justice estimates that 100,000-300,000 children are at risk each year, with an average age between 11 and 14. Now more than ever, quality education and awareness in our schools are essential.
Set Free Monterey Bay has developed an engaging curriculum aligned with California’s Human Trafficking Prevention Education and Training Act (AB-1227). It equips elementary, middle, and high school students with the knowledge to recognize and prevent trafficking for themselves and others.
Every (month, year?), we partner with educators and school staff to ensure compliance with California’s training requirements and to provide the tools needed for effective implementation.
Our vision is a world where no one needs rescuing from trafficking. By educating younger generations to identify predatory tactics and stay safe, we’re empowering thousands of students each year to protect their freedom and that of others.

"Set Free Monterey Bay gave me my life back. I learned that I didn’t need a man to be happy. I learned the value of relationships — healthy relationships. Set Free taught me the true meaning of freedom. To be completely free is the best feeling I’ve ever had. SFMB is a wonderful program that stands for something beyond my wildest dreams. They show women what it means to truly live and walk in freedom. I cannot begin to describe what they’ve done for me — grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. I could talk about this program all day, and it still wouldn’t be enough to express the feeling I have. I never thought I would be free. I thought I was destined to be trapped in a life of trafficking forever. But through this program, I’ve learned I’m meant for so much more."
