Current Opportunities to Serve

At SFMB, we hope that we can see as many people as possible join us in the mission to bring freedom to survivors of sex trafficking. Check out the opportunities below to learn more about how you can make a difference!

Primary Roles

There are three formal, primary roles in which someone can serve: volunteer, ambassador, or board member. There are those who help on a case-by-case basis or support in other ways. These roles are specific to work at the house and with the board of directors.

Volunteer

A volunteer is someone who serves at the residential house with our ladies. They take a regularly scheduled shift at the restoration home, supporting the weekly programming or weekend activities. They provide essential relief for the staff and valuable support for the residents. A volunteer completes an application with a background check in order to work with our ladies. More information can be found at setfreemontereybay.org/volunteer.

Service Provider

A service provider is someone who offers their expertise and skill to benefit the ladies. For example, therapists, dentists, tattoo artists, etc, who offer their services for little to no cost are service providers. Some of those who have come to work on the residential home have also been service providers. This category specifically includes those who offer a skill on a periodic basis to our ladies. As service providers have an ongoing relationship with the ladies, we have an application process (including a background check) for service providers to complete. Volunteer application only. No background check is required.

Ambassador

An ambassador can work on a special project or event, or they can work directly on a board committee or sub-committee. Ambassadors go through an application process, or they receive honorary ambassador status after rotating off of the board of directors. More information can be found at setfreemontereybay.org/volunteer.

Committees

When ambassadors join a committee, they would be required to attend committee meetings but not required to attend board of directors meetings. Here are the current committees and ways that ambassadors could be involved.

  • Fundraising: Anyone who has skills in fundraising, donor relations, event planning, or administration would be a great fit for this committee.

  • Finance: Anyone with a finance, bookkeeping, or accounting background would be a great fit for this committee.

  • Strategic Planning: Anyone who has an interest in long-range planning, or grant writing would be a great fit for this committee. Specifically, anyone interested in helping develop corporate or church partnerships would be a great fit here.

  • Marketing: Anyone with an interest in communication-related support would be a great fit here! In particular, if there was someone who wanted to help manage our website or support with social media, that would be great.

WueAdministrative Support

Rather than joining a committee, an ambassador could also help provide administrative support to the staff or board. Writing thank you cards, posting on social media, or data entry are a few tasks that an administrative ambassador could take on.

Board Member

Those who serve on the board of directors attend the monthly board meetings, participate in committees and special projects, and financially give to SFMB. We have one current seat available. In the summer, we could have a few more seats as terms are coming to an end. The board members all complete an application process, and if selected, they are welcome to join the board for a renewable term of two years.
